I go through phases where I love taking photographs with my “good” camera (Nikon D610), where I’m into writing, making clothes, painting denim, organizing my closets, creating the perfect capsule wardrobe…Right now I just want to party on Instagram.
How to take a selfie that looks like a professional photograph:
The keys are lighting and camera position! Look for open shade in natural daylight to avoid harsh lines on your face or creepy nose shadows (ew). I like to find a ledge or a shelf upon which to perch my iPhone 8+ if I’m shooting a headshot. I make a tripod out of found rocks if I’m doing a full body action shot. Shooting up looks especially cool if you are jumping!
Instagram wants an interesting/colorful/textured background upon which to display your [un]filtered beautiful spirit. Look for wooden slats, exposed brick and painted murals! At this point, it doesn’t matter if you’re rocking Gucci or Target, a confident attitude is the perfect accessory to a high contrast filter like Clarendon.
Let your selfie shine, and let me know if you try these tips!
